About Dr. Gould
I have been practicing psychiatry for more than 25 years. I am passionate about the work that I do and understand that mental health symptoms often occur in the context of complex biological, developmental, psychological, and/or social issues. I will take the time to explore and understand these issues and how they affect you and your family. I believe to be effective, the care I provide must be integrated with other therapies and interventions. I understand the value of collaboration and will work with you to help you achieve your goals.
I have a deep love of Florida and a long-standing connection to the Tampa Bay area. I graduated high school in the Upper Keys and attended Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Fl. I received my medical degree and completed my residency training at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. Prior to returning to my 'Florida roots' in 2017, I was Medical Director of Hillside, Inc in Atlanta, GA .
While at Hillside, I was fortunate to complete Intensive and Advanced Intensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). DBT is an evidenced-based treatment that combines cognitive behavior therapy techniques with mindfulness principles. DBT can help with many mental health issues including anxiety, depression, mood instability/problems with emotional regulation, borderline personality disorder, PTSD/trauma-related symptoms, interpersonal issues, self-injurious behaviors, and suicidal behaviors.
My clinical approach is best described as 'DBT-informed' and often incorporates DBT principles with more traditional psychiatric interventions - whether I am providing medication management or therapy. With this approach, I am often able to reduce need for psychotropic medications. I also work closely with intensively trained DBT providers in the area and can help you with a referral if you would benefit from comprehensive DBT.
